Both lines are of excellent quality, produced especially for feltmakers

*   Thin, evenly consistent layers that are easy to peel

The C-1 Line

*   Upholstery   *   Footwear   *   Hats   *   Sculpture   *

Why C-1?

C-1 wool is a perfect base to use alone or in mixtures for felts that must be durable, non-pilling and still look great with long-term wear and heavy use.

C-1 is a blend of three Norwegian breeds with high luster, white fleece with medium fibers.  It felts similarly to Corriedale wool.

Colors

We offer a solid 35-color palette, but strongly encourage you to alternate color layers during layout of your felt project.  Beautiful multi-toned and complex colors are naturally created during the felting process, which gives your designs sophistication and depth.  Or card colors together if you want a perfectly blended look.

Why import from Norway?

At present, consistent high quality domestic U.S. wool that is dyed and appropriate for felting is not available in the U.S. in large quantities.  We import the batts from Norway, where Feltmaking has a long tradition and is understood by the general population.

Fast-felting

Pelsull is an extremely-fast felting wool that is softer than C-1.  Together, they create a nice combination of durable felt that takes less time to make.

Heathered Colors

Pelsull fibers are medium to black in color and this is what gives the batts their gorgeous heathering.  People often choose these batts for their color, but be aware that there is a compositional difference.  Pelsull is longer-stapled than C-1, so your felt will be harrier with this blend.  You can shave the surface of the felt if this is undesirable.  This blend is often used by felt hatmakers.

What is Pelsull?  Is it the same as Gotland wool?

These wool batts are sometimes mistakenly referred to as “Gotland”, but our Norwegian suppliers tell us this is not accurate and that Gotland sheep are a primitive Swedish breed.  The wool is actually Pelsull, a breed that originated from Gotland sheep, but was crossbred with the native Norwegian Spelsau sheep.  For Feltmaking purposes however, they behave the same which is how the confusion began!
