Nuno Collage Scarves with Jean Gauger Sat, August 7 9am-4:30pm $95 plus materials, approx. $25-$40 beginner friendly
Create a stunning scarf in only a few hours and learn about the fastest-growing technique in feltmaking. Nuno is just one of many feltmaking techniques, but the amazing lightweight, highly textured fabric that results is rapidly gaining attention in finer galleries and the fiber art world. Easy to learn, nuno involves felting a small amount of colored merino wool into a pre-existing fabric (usually silk). No felting experience is necessary.
Easthampton fiber artist Jean Gauger creates unique art-to-wear nuno pieces as well as home decor,journals, handbags and framed art. Originally a knitter, she discovered wet felting and has been hooked ever since!

Cobweb Curtains with Christine White Sat, Sun, August 14-15 9am-4:30pm $225 plus materials, approx. $25-$50 intermediate felting experience required
Learning to make strong, consistently-even cobweb felt requires patience and practice. Students must have prior experience in wet felting. You will leave with 2 beautiful curtains.
Christine White is the owner of Magpie Designs Felting Studio and New England Felting Supply in western Massachusetts. After teaching for a number of years, she now concentrates on a few national courses and gives workshops for guilds and other groups. Chris has been felting professionally since 2001 and has worked in a variety of techniques with internationally known feltmakers. Founder of the Northeast Feltmakers Guild, she has also written about felt for various publications and served as guest curator for felt shows. She is the author of Uniquely Felt, (Storey, 2007).

Felted Baby Booties with Jean Gauger Sat, August 21 9am-4:30pm $95 plus materials, approx. $25-$40 beginner friendly
Learn how to make a pair of baby booties. These are one of my most adorable items, great for your baby or as a treasured gift. You will learn how to make yardage that you will cut and sew, along with how to make nuno flowers to decorate the top. Easy to learn, No felting experience is necessary. The possibilities are endless! There is some minimal sewing involved.

Needle Felted Dessert with Kerri Wessel Sat, August 28 9am-4:30pm $65 plus materials, approx. $10 beginner friendly
Make a pie or cupcake that looks good enough to eat and has zero calories! Develop your needle felting skills in this relaxed class. After you pick up a few tips and techniques from Kerri - the sky will be the limit as far as what you can create with a tuft of wool and a needle!
In 2003, Kerri received her BFA in Illustration from the
Hartford Art School. Soon after graduating, she began work creating custom handmade signage for Trader Joe's grocery store, while continuing to puruse her own artwork.

Local Wool Felted Rugs for The Home with Christine White Sat, Sun, September 11-12 9am-5pm $225 person / $375 couple (1 rug) plus materials, approx. $75 deposit required: $125 person / $175 couple beginner friendly
Go green and support New England farms! Feltmaker Chris White will lead a weekend workshop on how to felt a durable, lasting rug for your home using selected wools from the Pioneer Valley and other small farms farther a-field. We'll be using beautiful, rich, hand-dyed wools and embellishments to decorate the background of natural sheep colors (brown, white or grey). Materials fees will vary depending on the size and type of wool used (approx. $85 for a 3' x 4' embellished rug).
Rugmaking is a very physical process and participants should plan accordingly. Discount registration is offered for people who would like to participate in the class as a team - great for couples in one home or for friends who need a special wedding gift for a mutual acquaintance! Please note that while no prior experience is required, the workshop does require physical endurance.

Over Our Heads: Felted Sculpture for The Distinguished Cranium with Christine White Fri, Sat, Sun, September 17-19 9am-4:30pm $300 plus materials, approx. $20-$35 $125 deposit required intermediate felting experience required
Sculpting wool is a fun challenge and hats, whether wearable or not, offer the perfect opportunity to explore these advanced techniques. Create permanent silhouettes, attachments and textural surfaces in tandem with color shading and nuno embellishment to build multi-dimensional felt. All skills are directly translatable to felted vessels and other 3-dimensional felt sculpture.

 Fitting and Design of Felted Seamless Jackets with Linda Veilleux Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, Sep. 30 to Oct. 3 9am-5pm $469
This is a master nuno felting class. Nuno felting experience is required.
With instruction from Linda Veilleux, you will be creating a design of your choice and making a fitted seamless jacket from wool and lightweight silk.
Since making her national debut in Threads magazine (issue 140), Linda Veilleux has been inundated with workshop requests. We are lucky to have booked her early, so reserve your space in this phenominal workshop right away!
Join us for a master nuno felting class with accomplished feltmaker and designer Linda Veilleux. Linda will work with participants to create lightweight seamless silk nuno jackets using 6 to 10 yards of silk fabric and tiny amounts of wool!
These garments are amazing on the body and very long-wearing. You will learn how to measure and fit this unique way of garment making. Bring your own dyed silk yardage or use coordinating pieces from the consignment selection at NEFS if you prefer the more complex design achieved by laying out “collage style”. You will be designing a one-of-a-kind jacket, learning new design elements for a special look.
Linda Veilleux is the owner of Innovative Fashions, a clothing design business in northern Vermont. She has studied advanced feltmaking with world-renowned nuno clothing expert May Hvistendahl who taught her how to create lightweight felt clothing that drapes fluidly on the body. Linda has a strong sewing background and specializes in custom fit and unique design. She has a well-earned reputation for working one-on-one with her students to create amazing art-to-wear garments
GENERAL CLASS INFORMATION
NEFS offers workshops at all skill levels throughout the year. Classes range from day sessions with NEFS staff to full 5- day workshops with nationally and internationally- known professional feltmakers.
Class registration: Class registration is currently done by phone during business hours. Some classes require full payment at the time of registration, but for most, a deposit will be requested to hold your place. The balance of the class fee will be due at the end of class along with any material costs. You will be notified upon registration about details pertaining to the class including materials lists and cut off date for the return of your deposit. Classes that are cancelled by NEFS are fully refundable.
Materials: NEFS or the instructor will e-mail a materials list upon registration or in plenty of time before the class. Materials fee are due at the end of class.
Arrival and Parking: It’s important to arrive on time. Please make sure to check local weather and maps and always leave extra time to find us if it’s your first trip to the shop. Our expanded storefront space is now open! There is free parking on Cottage Street and a public parking lot directly across from us. If you need to unload supplies, you can drive around the back of the Majestic Theater Building (via Pine Street or Orchard Street) and unload into our back door. Parking in this lot is not permitted however so you will need to move your car to Cottage Street once you are done.
Food: During most classes, take-out lunches are ordered, but you are also welcome to bring your own food to class. We have a refrigerator and microwave. All food, drink and snacks should be confined to the kitchen area of the classroom space.
Lodging: There are many places to stay in the area and you can google the Pioneer Valley B & B’s, or the towns of Northampton, Hadley or Amherst. The Park Street B&B 1.5 miles from NEFS in Easthampton (413) 527-781. Rte. 9 in Hadley is about 10 miles from NEFS and has a number of motels including the Comfort Inn (413) 584-9816.
