Undyed Pelsull Batts
These batts are made of 100% Pelsull wool and are available only from NEFS in limited quantities. The wool is very similar to Swedish Gotland wool and felts extremely fast, making it an excellent choice for felted artwork and functional gear. The wool is prepared "in the grease", which means it has not been washed and still retains its natural oils. The wool has been picked clean of grass and dirt. It is undyed and has a natural salt & pepper appearance. The three shades: medium, dark and darkest are acheived by separating lighter and darker locks and mixing them in different ratios. The natural light and dark fibers create a beautiful heathered effect when dyed. Pelsull wool is from the Pelsau sheep, which is a Swedish Gotland sheep crossed with wild native Norwegian sheep. The name "Pelsull" comes from the word "Pelsau" (pelt sheep) and "ull" (wool). Both Pelsull and Gotland wools behave similarly when spun and felted. This 100% Pelsull wool is very fast felting and suitable for felting hats, vessels, bags, rugs, wall hangings and sculptural objects.
