If you already made several felted garments, it’s time to focus on all the important nuances that make felted clothes look professionally-made and learn structural secrets, and innovative Haute Couture surface design techniques.
This class is for experienced feltmakers with curiosity and desire to constantly improve their mastery of skills. Participants will create a reasonably-sized garment of their choice (dress, tunic, vest, skirt or small jacket) where the layout is not too big so the focus can remain on all the important steps and techniques that make garments look nicely made and finished. Katia will introduce innovative surface design methods and texture techniques such as how to apply plant fibers to create flexible and soft felted textiles without needing to rely on silk fabric. Don’t miss this treasure trove of information about exciting textures, techniques and fine textiles.
Katia Mokeyeva lives and runs her design studio ”Feuer und Wasser” in Vermont. Ukrainian born and raised in Moscow she graduated from the Moscow State University of Arts and Industry in 1995. As an extension to her education, she completed the junior and senior years at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, focusing on fashion design and textile. Partaking in a short summer study abroad program in London’s Central St. Martin’s College of Arts and Design gave her a new spectrum of inspiration as a clothing designer.
Her exploration of various artistic methods and mediums led to a development of a more specific direction that sparked love in the realm of textile and fibre art. The possibility to create one-of-a-kind garments from scratch with the use of artisan textile led her to the particular technique of Nuno-felting.
Katia’s work was featured in FilzFun magazine, Textile Art Around The World book, and other European and American blogs and magazines. She is a finalist of the NICHE Awards 2015 ( American Made Show). Her most recent exhibition “Sea States” was held at the DHG gallery in Italy. Katia is an international tutor, she is conducting workshops in USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.
